Nicely named playlists
Haven't linked to a playlist in awhile, so here's two:
HI!
Songs to Kill Yourself at Work By
The latter looks more promising, but HI! seemed too nice to pass up.

Kenny Rogers Attacking a Cameraman vs. Talkin' Baseball: client-side mashup
In this playlist, I combined the video of Kenny Rogers (the baseball player) attacking a cameraman (story here) with Terry Cashman's Talkin' Baseball song. It's a client-side mashup, which means that I didn't touch either the video or the audio, I just put 'em together in Webjay and told RealPlayer to play them at the same time. Enjoy.

Morning Playlist
Okay, here's what I was listening to this morning:
Rainy Days - Conestone
Ella Fitzgerald - Good Enough
Little Grass Shack (Live) - Bill Tapia
imagine...walk on the wild side - thepartyparty (George Bush remix)
Grottmusik - Alt hanger samman
Invader - Jesper Kyd
Natural Mystic - Bob Marley and the Wailers
I admit that some of these songs I don't even know where I got them - suggestions from others, Webjay downloads, etc. Reading Page Six on the subway while listening to Bill Tapia is sort of surreal - really pleasant music as background while reading about really unpleasant nitwits. I was also thinking that it would be nice to share this playlist with everyone, but of course I can't do that. Ubiquitous connectivity is a long way off, and even if we had it, the ability to legally share music from one's own collection is unlikely to occur anytime soon. Yes, I know, NO ONE is talking about that topic. Still, it was interesting to think that, in theory, it would be possibly to share this music on the fly - I'm listening on a Treo 600, which can connect to the Internet, via RealPlayer, which can save playlists. So with the right app, and the right laws, I could tap a few songs and say "Share This Playlist", output a xspf (!) and there we are - anyone who wants to can hear what I hear. Rhapsody now has a 'Playlist Central' area of their new software, and Yahoo wants you to be able to share playlists as well via the Yahoo Music Engine (not that their software is easy to find). Rhapsody forces you to use their software to listen, and you have to be a subscriber. Yahoo sort of does the same thing, but since they use the xspf format you can at least create a playlist that plays in their software, although if the tracks are part of the subscription service, you can't hear them without being a subscriber. Bottom line: you must pay the piper if you want to hear the playlist. But if I had a server (Orb does this) that my music was stored on, and my xspf playlist pointed to that, and it was online all the time, and it was legal for me to serve up these files - hey now!

More music from Webjay that I wouldn't otherwise listen to but I like
wonderwarm, described as from minimal, over indietronica to other melancholic spheres, by a Webjay named ratte, is extremely pleasant listening and also a great example of a collection of music that without Webjay I probably would never bother listening to.

The Worst of Webjay
Does this mean Webjay is part of the mainstream, now that it has a 'worst of' playlist? VH1 does this all the time now. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later -sigh-...

WeatherJay?
Songs for a Rainy Day (Okay, a Snowy Day) starts with a weather report mashed up with a mandocello solo. The rest features ambient-ish music and traffic cameras in New York City. So listen to the music and check to see if you need a coat before you go out (note: you do. It's really cold.)

Adding audio commentary to playlists
Using AT&T's TTS (Text To Speech) Demo, I created a couple of little commentaries on this playlist. I like the idea of doing this, since sometimes a playlist could use a little bit of explaining. Gosh, what does that sound like? Oh right, RADIO. The computer voices are not perfect, but they work well enough.

Syntax of Things
More music I don't think I would have liked even a couple of years ago. Featuring a few tracks from etree.org, including bands like My Morning Jacket and Camper Van Beethoven, who at least I've heard of. Not that they're my favorites, but it tells me that there are probably more tape-friendly bands than I realized.

Correction: Bellydancing is next week
This is the playlist I'm digging right now. It came from here on 2-13-05. It looks like it's updated monthly (hence the "Album of the Month"). Bellydancing is next time.

From OddioKatya, a playlist inspired by a 'dark chilly day in NY, missing Cali'. Not so nice in NY today. Yesterday was better. Sounds like a bad song.

'I Fought The Law' Playlist - Blast From Playlists Past
This playlist still works. The first 'track' was the old Webjay tag line, it won't play, ignore it. This was an early attempt to convey a short message via SMIL.

Old Playlists That Still Work
Accidentally overwrote the file of old playlists that still work. Oops.
Tom Waits: the Tom Waits tracks are gone, but there's a few songs in here that work. Not many.
Blues 2: All broken, sadly.
Bo: some Brazilian sounding stuff, and also some classical.
Cocaine: dead.
Scm03: dead.
MoshPit Monday: works so far.

More Old Playlists That Still Work
Democrat: not music, but it is a good example of using RealText to comment on stuff. And it has Zell Miller singing, which with his bizarre keynote at the RNC this year (aka 'Repugnicon', is slightly more surreal (if that's possible).
Blue Cheer Sampler: short clips from Blue Cheer. Not very exciting, but good music. Too short.

Waiting For Webjay
For those who are eagerly awaiting Webjay's return, here are some playlists to tide you over:
Epitonic Playlists
Older Playlists
Note that some of these may not work, but so far most of them do. Some are also experiemental, and have weird Real Text scrolling messages and crap like that.
