The Weblog of Brett Singer. Bringing the world what it needs most - a blog.

Note: Sorry about all of the 'hot deals' entries (someone referred to this blog as CorporateShill.com).
The deals and things are being fed into Multineedia.com. We will soon move the deals category over to Multineedia so you don't have to read it, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

    M.I.A. is Freea at iTunes

Why they would give away the only song that I know by any artist is unclear to me, but Galang icon by M.I.A. (her real name is Maya - play that game with your own name, see what you come up with) is free this week at iTunes. This is one of those times when I actually feel a little ahead of the curve: I've already heard of M.I.A. and even heard a mash-up of the song - it's mashed with the Super Mario Brothers theme. What a world.

Verizon DSL - The Saga Continues

So after finally getting them to accept my order, it turns out that you can't have a DSL line on a line that is part of a hunt group. So I need to switch it to another number, which involved 35 minutes on the phone, and then I got a call FROM VERIZON 10 minutes after that. I needed to cancel the first order, then copy the old order into the new order, then listen to some New Order while on hold, then make absolutely sure that the rep I was talking to was clear on what they were supposed to be doing. (Remember: I talked to five different people during the initial 35 minute call.) The call that I got FROM Verizon was to tell me that I needed to cancel the old order. I said that I thought it had been cancelled, and was told that they just "wanted to make sure". So I talked to the cancellation department, asked them why they cancelled Square Pegs years ago, was told that they had nothing to do with television, at least not at the moment, but would I like to receive information about their future offerings? I said no, thank you, I was told I needed to talk to you to cancel my DSL order. Your order is already being cancelled, said the rep. But you called me! I cried. Well, not you personally, but you, as in Verizon, as in the person who transferred me to you, as in... Oh, forget it. So the order is being cancelled? Yes, said the rep, who promptly asked if I had been treated like a valued customer today. I said sure, why not. Okay sir, thank you, and have I provided excellent service today? Um, yeah. You called me but there wasn't any reason for that, but at least you were pleasant about the whole thing. Sure, why not? Excellent service! Thank you and good night.

Some of that actually happened (the valued customer stuff) some didn't (Square Pegs). If I'm not too busy, I can usually see the humor in these sorts of things. It's better than going completely insane, which is what I used to do.

    I'm sure there's a catch, but it's worth a try. I'll post something when I do it.
