The Weblog of Brett Singer. Bringing the world what it needs most - a blog.

Note: Sorry about all of the 'hot deals' entries (someone referred to this blog as CorporateShill.com).
The deals and things are being fed into Multineedia.com. We will soon move the deals category over to Multineedia so you don't have to read it, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Mr. Dell say: IBM-Lenovo Deal Sux

Shockingly, Michael Dell has nothing nice to say about the potential sale of IBM's PC business. Dell, in my opinion, has won market share by making prices insanely low, and also by bombarding the world with advertising (similar to AOL and their ubiquitous discs). What never seems to come out is how Dell manages to not process tons of rebates, which are a major reason that their prices are so low. I've been trying to get $250 out of them for awhile now, to no avail. Memo to Mike: stop talking at conferences about how great your manufacturing is and get your administrative act together.

I'm actually quite intriqued by the Lenovo's potential acquisition of IBM. An article in last Saturday's NY Times had a chart (not online, annoyingly) showing how laptops were built and what the individual parts cost. I always found it interesting how little the name on the machine mattered in so many cases, especially Dell's. IBM, however, makes unique machines - I think. The Thinkpad keyboard, for example, has always been considered top notch. Will the quality go into the crapper when IBM leaves the PC business? I'm glad I bought a Thinkpad already.

    Deals at Walmart (yes, Walmart)

I know you think they're evil, but Walmart.com is worth shopping at because the prices are REALLY GOOD. Here are a few of their current holidays deals. They have video games, computers, stuff that you wouldn't think of them for, but the prices are low. You can't get anything 'racy' (like the explicit versions of albums), but with something like an Air Hockey table, that's not an issue.
