Que es?
The Weblog of Brett Singer. Bringing the world what it needs most - a blog.

Note: Sorry about all of the 'hot deals' entries (someone referred to this blog as CorporateShill.com).
The deals and things are being fed into Multineedia.com. We will soon move the deals category over to Multineedia so you don't have to read it, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

    Department of Too Many Movies

Here's a movie that stars Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr. Come on. How could you not want to see it? Also features Roman Polanski, Richard Attenborough, and Raquel Welch as, I shit you not, 'Priestess of the Whip'. Polanski is 'Solitary drinker'. There is a character named 'Laurence Faggot'. Come ON! This is a must-see!

Part of the problem (and there are many problems with this) inherent in the deluge of media choices that now assails us is that the old stuff, especially nonsense like this, will get forgotten. Sure, the "classics" will always be remembered (at least for awhile), but there's tons of great stuff that will slip through the cracks. Of course, it will all be AVAILABLE on DVD, but who will know to even look for it? I found this dopey flick by noodling around on imdb, and I went to imdb because I was curious who directed the upcoming Al Pacino Merchant of Venice (it's , if anybody's interested. He directed Il Postino, another movie I've never seen). Bottom line: there are only so many hours in a day, and only a few of them (some days, none) will be dedicated to viewing entertainment product. Do we really think that My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss (which is, by the way, fairly amusing) is really better than The Magic Christian?

It's a Computer Geeks Geek Stor 288-Disc Black Nylon CD/DVD Case. Say that ten times fast. Still, it's a decent price to store a lot of discs. I have a staggering amount of CDs that I've accumulated over the years.

    Afrobeat

Don't hit me, but I think I like Afrobeat. It feels tremendously pretentious to write that. But I think -gasp- that it is true.

Found Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra on Epitonic (where they have free tracks from their album Talkatif), and I listened to Tony Alen's excellent HomeCooking yesterday on RealRhapsody, which you should try for free so you can listen to it too (did I mention it was free? It's free. Click and find out.)

Anyway, I'm pretentious. Oh well. At least I have new music to listen to.

    Sonic Measuring Device

I can't vouch for whether or not this thing works, but it sounds good (no pun intended - SORRY!). Developed for professional builders and contractors, this sonic measuring device uses sound waves to give length, area and volume measurements at the click of a button. No more wrestling with tape measures and calculators to figure out how much paint or tile they'll need for their next project. By simply pointing its laser at a target and pressing a button, the dimensions are provided instantly in their choice of feet or meters, up to 50 feet.

So it measures the sound waves, and then you 'know' exactly how much tile or wallpaper to use (say 'I KNOW' like Jay Mohr doing his Christopher Walken impression). Neat idea.

    Speaker Deals at CompGeeks

My new favorite speakers (Benwin 2-piece ECCO USB-P 2.0 Multimedia Speakers), only $12.50 (no rebates) at CompGeeks. With shipping it's about $20. Highly, highly, highly recommended. Helps to tame the mess of wires that is our computing life (there's only one USB plug for power and audio). So buy them! 2-piece Benwin Multimedia Spk

    Another Interesting USB Audio Device
Yet another intriquing USB audio device, this time for laptops specifically (although I suppose you could use it for any computer). Noise-Canceling Headphones + Audio Advantage Micro USB sound device - sounds good (no pun intended). As near as I can tell, the USB port is used to get clean digital audio out of the PC, and then the device has a built-in amplifier which pumps out sound to your headphones/speakers. I'm very happy with my (under $20 at Benwin 2-piece ECCO USB-P 2.0 Multimedia Speakers from Computer Geeks (turns out they can even be used when plugged into a USB hub, which is very handy for laptop users); as far as I can see, these work on the same principle. Viva USB Audio!
