Que es?
The Weblog of Brett Singer. Bringing the world what it needs most - a blog.
Note: Sorry about all of the 'hot deals' entries (someone referred to this blog as
CorporateShill.com).
The deals and things are being fed into Multineedia.com. We will
soon move the deals category over to Multineedia so you don't have to read it, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Good Name for Product
Intel StrataFlash ROM - available in the Dell Axim X50v 624MHz Handheld. PocketNow review, CNET review. Link above from Computerlandcentral, a very handy deals and coupons site.
Say it fast: STRATAFLASH. Much better than "centrino". Or "McKinley".
The new Pocket PCs look tres sweet, but I'm not that tempted. Being locked into another Microsoft OS is not all that appealing, especially since they keep changing the operating system. As an owner of one of the first Windows CE devices (the NEC MobilePro 450), it was very frustrating to find that even upgrading the device's own ROM (from 1.0 to 2.0, which had to be done with a screwdriver, although at least it could be done) rendered old software unusable. NEC is a weird company. They sold the ROM upgrade, but getting it was a matter of wading through a clandestine maze of voice mail prompts, then talking with someone who I swear was trapped in a basement somewhere. According to him, you can order parts for any NEC computer ever made, as long as you have the part number (and they have it in stock). I was given the secret voice mail selections, and told that if I didn't use them in the proper order, there wasn't much chance of getting a human being to place the order with. This was several years ago and I don't know what I did with the number, so don't ask. I doubt you really need that 8MB RAM upgrade for your NEC laptop anyway.

$5K for a Music Video? Eat me.
Yellow and iFilm wanna give you $5000 for making them a video. Maybe I'm wrong, but don't directors alone usually get $500,000 or something? At least $50,000. Maybe I'm out of touch. The thing about these contests is that while you do get exposure, the band gets a cheapo video, probably very well-produced. Oh well. Gotta go, I need to work on my entry.

Leadbelly in the Daily News
Good article about Leadbelly in the Daily News today. Well-written and informative. David Hinckley is an interesting writer in a strange place (that is, a NYC tabloid).

MATRIX SUX - just ask your DVD player
The Ultimate Matrix Collection (The Matrix / Reloaded / Revolutions / Revisited / The Animatrix) on DVD has a commentary track by critics who hated the movie. Here's the review from IGN.com in the case the NY Post link goes dead. I have to give the goofball Wachowski Brothers some credit, it shows a certain sense of humor to put something like that on your DVD.
