Que es?
The Weblog of Brett Singer. Bringing the world what it needs most - a blog.

Note: Sorry about all of the 'hot deals' entries (someone referred to this blog as CorporateShill.com).
The deals and things are being fed into Multineedia.com. We will soon move the deals category over to Multineedia so you don't have to read it, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

    1930's Sex Catalog
I'm sure everyone on the 'net is linking to this, but I'll do it too.

    Microsoft bloggers screws up

Not 100% sure what this is about yet (okay, that's because I haven't read it) but it seems that a Microsoft blogger caused some agita in Redmonmd and beyond.

Whether or not this is the case, I always find it funny that people seem to feel they should be immune to repurcusions from their blogging activities. If you post it online, and want people to read it (most people who do this DO want people to read it), you have to be prepared to suffer the consequences. Hear me now and believe me later, there's stuff I don't post here (and frankly, I don't think I have any readers).

    Podcasting is stoopid

    So I tried some Podcasting.

  • Started with this playlist.
  • Downloaded iPodder for Windows.
  • Entered the XML link (aka RSS feed).
  • iTunes was launched. iTunes once crashed my hard drive (can't prove it, but I think that's what happened). It's starting to annoy me. Seems to want more and more control over things. Very Gatesian.
  • ONE song was downloaded. ONE. Did I mention that only ONE song was downloaded? And the track name was "track 1"? This is progress? This is exciting? Feh.
  • Tried again. "No new updates." So I guess it thinks that just the one track is new. Stoopid.
  • I can, however, download Adam Curry's latest babblings, available as an RSS feed. Shockingly, I choose not to.
  • I give up and do the following:
    1. Download the m3u version of the playlist (which, thanks to Webjay's wonderful simplicity, requires only appending .m3u to the URL).
    2. Navigate to my wget directory (this is Windows, don't forget), launch a command line window and cd (yes, DOS, whatever) to the appropriate directory.
    3. Move the m3u file into the wget directory.
    4. Change the .m3u file to a .txt file (not a necessary step, I don't think).
    5. Type wget -i ragga-junglebreakcoremashup.txt.
    6. Songs are coming in now.

Is this easier? Of course not. But was it THAT hard? Not at all. And, unlike the Schmodcasting, did it work? Yes. Yes it did.
